Class Descriptions

Gentle Yoga is an inwardly focused self-nurturing practice.  It combines
breath awareness with full range of motion movements and yoga postures,
followed by relaxation.  Designed for students who desire a less strenuous
class, this yoga class is also ideal for those experiencing illness, injury, or
chronic pain.  Class is followed by ~30 minute meditation.

Gentle Therapeutic Yoga  This class utilizes gentle movements and breathing
techniques specifically designed for those living with limited range of motion,
arthritis, fibromyalgia, or chronic pain.  Also for older adults seeking a
program to challenge yet honor their aging bodies to maintain mobility,
flexibility and balance.  Supportive props and chairs are used to make the
    poses accessible to almost everyone.

Meditative Yoga  This Pranakriya style class explores classical postures
(asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama) to strengthen and open your
body. Sequences are led in a meditative manner, interspersing movement with
holding postures to generate strength and heat which encourage the body to
release deep-seated tension. Beginners are also welcome in this class.

Moderate Yoga  is an all-levels class designed to be challenging enough for
experienced students and gentle enough for those who are new to yoga.
Modifications and variations are provided to encourage and challenge all.

Restorative Yoga  is a therapeutic style of yoga which utilizes props to make it
easier for the body to get into certain poses, and thus, surrender to the pose.
In a chronically stressed state, quality of life and perhaps life itself is at risk.
The body's capacity to heal itself can be compromised, inhibiting recovery
from injury or illness, or it may create new illness or injury, including high
blood pressure, ulcers, back pain, immune dysfunction and depression.  We
tend to live our lives in a “fast forward” speed, and then collapse into
exhaustion.  The antidote to stress is relaxation. Restorative yoga focuses on
relaxation, renewal, effortlessness and ease. Blankets, bolsters, straps, and
other props safely support the body in various postures which allows the
body to move towards a state of balance. This practice soothes your nervous
system, helps you quiet your mind and invites you to release deeply held
tension. During these periods of deep relaxation you will be healed and
    nurtured from within.

Pranayama & Meditation includes warm up stretching and pranayama to build
energy and warm and tire the physical body, preparing for seated meditation.
Explore breathing techniques including Dirgha and Kumbhaka; Pranayama
techniques such as Ujjayi, Shitali, Bhastrika and Bhramari as well as some of
the Shat Kriyas (purifying actions):  Kapalabhati, Agni Sara, Nadi Shodhana,
and Anuloma Viloma and their variations.  The 3 Bandhamudras will be
explored and added to the pranayama and shat kriya techniques as students
    advance in their practice.

Meditation quiets the mind, body and spirit and brings them to oneness.   It helps us access buried layers of unconscious thoughts so
they can be realized and released.  Meditation helps to move the mind into a deep state of relaxation and introspection, and relieves the
deepest layers of stress that accumulate in the body/mind and heals the heart.  Guided meditation techniques include visualizations,
    yoga nidra, and candle gazing.

Prenatal Yoga Yoga postures, breathing, meditation and relaxation are an ideal way for pregnant women to experience their pregnancy,
prepare for delivery and birth and help new mothers settle into their bodies and lives after birth.  Each class begins by taking some time
for discussion, giving everyone the opportunity to express how she is feeling and to ask questions.  There is a special camaraderie and
closeness that develops during this time, and most women find the support to be invaluable.  Discussion time is followed by centering,
bringing focus to the body and helping women connect with their babies.  Stretching, strengthening and balancing postures help
prepare the body for the process of giving birth.  Classes are scheduled on a sign-up basis.  Please call or email for more information.
